Many years ago St. Brendan's Parish Council established an educational scholarship fund, the main purpose of which is to promote parochial education from elementary schooling to college level studies as an option for our parishioners. The money for this scholarship is provided by St. Brendan's tithing program. The success of our parish tithing program, and the generosity of some parish families, will again allow us to offer grants of $750. in the next school year, just as we have in the past. Eight scholarship awards of $750 each will be distributed. All payments will be made directly to the educational institution on behalf of the winners, unless there is a good reason to make an exception to this rule.
Applicants for the program must meet the following requirements:
The applicants will apply by writing an essay and submitting it by Sunday, August 6, 2023. The essay should be no more than one side of one page and should discuss the reasons why a Catholic education is important to the applicant and how he or she and the surrounding community will benefit from this child’s Catholic education. The parents of children entering kindergarten through 6th grade may write the essay on behalf of the child.
Our late pastor, Fr. Daniel J. Gilmartin, left as part of his estate, funds for a college scholarship to be distributed according to the decisions of the Pastor of St. Brendan Parish, who is the trustee of the Fr. Gilmartin scholarship fund. The scholarship is worth $1,000, and it is given for one academic year. Hence, the conditions that I have set for the awarding of the 2023-2024 Father Daniel J. Gilmartin College Scholarship are as follows:
Note: Whoever receives the Gilmartin Scholarship will not be eligible for the scholarships awarded from the Parish Scholarship Fund.
